While CCGA(Q) volunteers commit to respond quickly and effectively when accidents occur, their main concern will be to avoid, or at least to reduce the severity of the incident.

Wearing a life jacket or PFD (personal flotation device) is one of the most important security measures and, unfortunately, one of the most neglected. It is not just good enough to have the sufficient quantity in the boat. 

ALL THE PASSENGERS MUST WEAR THEM.

Quebec waters are cold most of the year. And when you fall into cold water, the survival time for even a good swimmer is counted. Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht, expression "1-10-1" is used to  describe the three critical phases of cold water immersion.
