CCGA(Q) can count on about 76 boats. Of these, 30 are boats that belong to the CCGA (Q) and are loaned to the units. The others belong either to the members, boaters, or commercial fishermen.
All boats must meet very strict standards. Members are responsible to equip their boats with specific search and rescue equipment, which can result in costs amounting to thousands of dollars. Members are also responsible for ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of their boats or the boat loaned to them.
Each year, in collaboration with the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centers (MRSC), the management of the CCGA(Q), determines the location of boats available, to ensure the best coverage throughout the territory covered.
In the territory of Nunavik and Baie James, we are currently working with local communities, to deploy up to 18 specially adapted SAR vessels that are adapted to the harsh climate conditions of the far north.
